Follow up on Hailey`s surgery

Dad`s log:  Sorry for the cliff hanger, we haven`t had much time to follow up on Hailey`s surgery.  The dye and x-rays confirmed that she has major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCA's) instead of fully formed pulmonary arteries.  The cath surgeon called them SAPCA'S for small aortopulminary colateral arteries.  So she doesn't have native pulmonary arteries and what she does have is really small.  Also, these small MAPCAS do not feed all sections of her lungs.  She also does not have a ductus arteriosis or PDA.  They have taken her off of the drug (prostaglandins) which is supposed to keep the PDA open.  That is a good thing since the drug causes apnea as a side effect so she may not need to be put back on the BiPAP once they remove her breathing tube.   While we don't have the official decision yet, it sounds like she may get to come home.  They will let her grow a little bit before they would do a surgery to combine her MAPCA's.

We had a little scare with Hailey's leg following the operation. The trauma caused by the catheter likely resulted in some swelling which caused decreased blood flow to her leg and it got dark colored and they couldn't feel a pulse in her foot.  They gave her some blood thinner and were watching it closely.  By that evening however, her leg had returned to it's regular color and they were able to detect a small pulse in her foot using a doplar.  It is expected to get better in the next little while. at

Angie was discharged yesterday is is tired and a little weak but is doing well.  Last night is the first time we got to spend all together with Abby and Katelyn since Hailey was born and we were happy to be together.
