Surgery Date and Other Updates
Dad's Log: Hailey's surgery date was moved to June 17th. That is about a 4 week delay from her original surgery date. It sounds like Stanford is dealing with a lot of infant surgeries that is delaying things for a lot of people. We were a little sad that her surgery date was delayed. But we are also concerned for all the families of new babies that may be having these urgent surgeries. At least when Hailey was born, we new about her heart condition ahead of time and were able to prepare emotionally and otherwise.
Also, when Hailey went down to Primary's this last time, they did an additional hearing evaluation and determined that she had some fluid in her middle ear. It is likely that this was causing the hearing loss they saw earlier in her hearing evaluation. The good news is that fluid can be removed and should restore her hearing to a normal level. So we may not be looking at permanent hearing loss after all.
This week Hailey has an appointment with a GI surgeon at Primary's to discuss a g-tube surgery. Angie and Hailey should be down there for a day or so. Hailey will also have another swallow study to hopefully shed some more light on the issues she is having with swallowing.
Hailey has shown an increased interest in eating lately. We have been giving her tastes of food for which she gets really excited. Just during the time I have been trying to write this post, I have been getting up about every other minute or so to refill her spoon with some baby food. She then grabs the spoon and sticks it enthusiastically in her mouth. I'm not sure she swallows anything, and we purposefully give her tiny mounts so she can handle it ok, but we're glad to see her interest in food. We were afraid she was developing an oral aversion but this recent change in attitude towards food is hopeful.
