Made it to Palo Alto!
Dad's log: Well, we made it to Palo Alto! We left IF last night and got to our hotel about 11:00 pm. Hailey slept the entire way (awsome!) so we made good time. We organized our luggage, took care of Hailey's prescriptions and got to bed around 1 am. We caught our shuttle this morning at 6 and made it to the Salt Lake airport. We somehow managed to get ourselves, Hailey, four checked bags, one carry-on, one personal item , one diaper bag, one feeding pump, one oxygen concentrator, a stroller and a carseat checked in, through TSA, and onto the plane. The luggage definately had us outnumbered and if it wasn't for some kind airport personnel, we might still be in SLC wrestling bags. In Oakland, a guy with a luggage cart ran our stuff out to the shuttle for us. Most worth-it tip I ever gave. Once on the shuttle, Angie made some quick calls and found out we would be able to get checked into the Ronald McDonald House today afterall. Our accommodations for tonight had been up-in-the-air up to that point and our original plan had us going to a hotel until a room opened up at the RMH. The timely news required only a minor course correction for the shuttle driver and before we new it we were at the RMH. That change in accommodations saved us from what would have invariably been another move, and from more shuttles and more greco-roman luggage handling (also awsome!).
Hailey handled the plane ride really well and she never seemed like she needed any oxygen though we had it running just in case. She didn't cry and slept for most of the flight. The stewardesses were really helpful and concerned for Hailey. One even said she would pray for her on her surgery date, which happens to be on the same day as her daughter's birthday. They also gave her a "my first flight" commemorative certificate.
So in spite of the luggage hassle, today went really smooth. Angie said this is the least stressful day she has had in a while. With all the doctors appointments, insurance calls and travel planning, that's probably not far off. We are so thankfull for all the friends, family, co-workers and ward members who have helped us out during these last few months. Like our baggage handling today, we could not have made it here without your help!
Tomorrow is our first pre-op appointment at the hospital. Then we will have the weekend before her cath procedure on Monday.
So glad you guys were able to get right into the RMH and that the travel went well. Love you all!!!
