CT Scan Today
Dad's Log: They are prepping Hailey for a CT scan today. They will be looking for sources of infection responsible for her high heart rate and fever which she experienced yesterday. If they can find the source, they have the potential to culture what ever may be growing there and determine the specific antibiotics to treat her with. There is a potential they will have to perform surgery to access/remove it. They performed a series of ultrasounds last night and identified a pocket of fluid in her abdomen as well as what may be a clot on the end of her picc line near her heart. Both of these are possible infection sources that they will be looking at during today's CT.
For now, the broad-spectrum antibiotics seem to be helping. Her heart rate is 110 bpm and her fever has subsided though it is creaping back up. Her tummy looks enlarged. They need to give her CT contrast fluid in her tummy and we are hoping they can get it in.
I feel like some of the immediate urgency has subsided but it is still critical to figure out what is causing the problems. As always, Hailey doesn't do simple, straightforward or easy so they are watching her close and treating the side issues as best they can.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and faith. Yesterday was emotional. In some ways I felt like we were closer to loosing her than when she went on ECMO after her g-tube surgery. We had to have some difficult discussions with the doctors. But she is doing ok today and we have so much to be thankful for.
