Day 31
We are not going to Stanford tomorrow. They are sending a CD of Hailey's cath pictures to Stanford. They will review them tomorrow and then determine whether the surgery date needs to be moved up.
If it is moved up, we will probably fly down Saturday or Sunday. If they keep the June 17th date we will just stay here for a week or two until surgery is closer.
She is doing about the same. Her heart rate is still kind of high and she has a little fever. They keep having to up the sedation to keep her comfortable so it feels like we just keep losing ground, but there are no plans to try to extubate (get the breathing tube out) unless she will be here a while before going to Stanford.
It is safer to fly her down while she is still intubated. They have more control over her breathing. But, a breathing tube has down sides too. The fact that it is a foreign object in the body means that there is an inherent risk of infection. So, if she will be here very long they will start trying to wean her off the breathing tube.
It is an amazingly delicate balancing game weighing risks and benefits in medicine. The smallest change in one medicine can drastically affect others. Too much sedation and the child is too sleepy to breathe alone. Not sleepy enough and they might yank out the breathing tube and injure their airway in the process. I am so grateful for these incredible doctors and nurses!!!
I am so grateful for Heavenly Father's tender mercies and miracles in bringing Hailey so far, and I am so grateful for all of our wonderful family and friends.
Thank you all for supporting us and just being who you are!!
