Day 3
This morning the doctors were very worried about Hailey. She ended up needing to be intubated last night and was on such high ventilator settings that they pulled Ben aside and asked him about what we wanted to do "in case she didn't get better". They were discussing ECMO and quite frankly had us scared to death.
Ben let me know what the doctors were saying and we quickly changed plans. I had planned to stay home for a bit and catch up on some household stuff this morning before we left for Utah but Ben's phone call changed all of that. I threw everything in the car as quickly as I could and got on the road with the girls.
It was still about 4 by the time we got here, but the roads were good and we only had to stop a couple of times. Ben called and let me know that Hailey had spiked a fever and her heart rate was in the 180s (about 130s is normal for her when she is sleeping). Thankfully though by the time I got to Salt Lake she had turned the corner a bit and was more stable. She is still very sick but at least not on the verge of crashing like last night
I sat with her most of the evening and Ben took the girls. The girls aren't allowed in the hospital because it is RSV season, so that complicates things. We usually would stay in the Ronald McDonald House too but we are all still fighting colds so we can't stay there. We need to be close to the hospital so we are staying in a nearby hotel. Luckily it has a pool since we don't have access to all the neat stuff at the RMH. (We love that place!!!)
Still, the girls are happy to be having a different adventure by staying in a hotel, so that is good. They LOVE the pool!
The hospital is jam-packed with kids with winter viruses. The one Hailey has is called metapneumovirus. It is kind of like RSV. For all of us, just a bit of a nasty cold, but for Hailey not good at all.
Anyway we can't tell you how much we appreciate your prayers! I'm sure we can count Hailey's improvement as a direct answer to all of your faith and prayers.
Praying for her and you guys. Thank you for your updates. We love and care dearly for you all.
