Day 1

Made it to California safe and sound! It was a crazy day because we forgot one of Hailey's medications and her nebulizer (to give her breathing treatments) and then a tiny bit of water got into the filter for the suction machine during the flight (from when we rinsed it out) so that wouldn't work. But, thanks to amazing doctors, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and medical suppliers we are covered and good to go.

Hailey did well on the flight and the people at the airline were fabulous! They let Ben and Katelyn help us to the gate (Abby was at school). The flight attendants paid for some food for me and one of them gave me a little gift card she had gotten at work.

A man at the San Jose airport helped me roll my bags to the shuttle and then another kind soul at the hotel check-in desk helped me get everything to the elevator.

One lady in my ward pre-filled all the medicine syringes for our trip (except the one we forgot to grab because we couldn't do that one :-). Another watched Abby, another is helping Abby get on the bus this week, others have done laundry--so many other things--too many to list, not to mention all the prayers and words of encouragement.

It is humbling. To everyone who helps it may seem small but to us it makes a world of difference and we will never forget it.

Hailey seemed kind of lethargic on the trip and it was making me really nervous. It turned out that the part of her oxygen tubing that hooks to the machine wasn't quite the right shape. She was getting oxygen but a lot was leaking out around the seal too. It didn't make any noise so it took forever for me to figure it out. When I finally figured out what was wrong I changed tubing and now she looks a LOT better!
