Day 10
Well not too much to report today--which is good.
Hailey looks exactly the same as yesterday. They are watching her closely as the first few days after are the most critical.
Her heart rate made a sudden jump this morning so they are pacing her heart with pacing wires (the little blue wires in yesterday's pictures). They always put pacing wires in during heart surgery and they are one of the very last things they take out just in case.
They want to make sure the nodes in her heart (little bundles of nerve tissue that control the electrical pulses that create a heartbeat) continue to function in the appropriate way. Sometimes when the heart has been messed with the signal gets confused and the nodes don't send the electrical impulses in sync. The pacer wires help to time things right.
Other than that she looks good. Right now they just try to keep her cool--she is on a cooling pad--to keep extra load off her heart and try to draw off extra fluid by giving her lasix (a diuretic).
Anyway we sure appreciate all the prayers and support. It makes a world of difference to know we have so many wonderful people rooting for us!
